J + Q’s Wedding Weekend at the Lodge at Marconi on Tomales Bay
We believe the most meaningful weddings are the ones that reflect not only a couple’s style, but also the way they love and care for the people around them. J + Q’s wedding weekend at the beautiful Lodge at Marconi on Tomales Bay was exactly that: thoughtful, warm, joyful, and deeply centered around community.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Tomales Bay, guests arrived for a full wedding weekend at the newly renovated coastal retreat. The extended stay created space for everyone to slow down, settle in, and truly connect before the celebration even began.
A Coastal Welcome Weekend
The wedding festivities kicked off with a picturesque rehearsal on the hill overlooking the rolling coastal landscape. It was one of those classic Northern California days with cool air, sweeping views, and plenty of laughter shared between family and friends. After rehearsal, the couple headed to Nick’s Cove with their closest loved ones for an intimate dinner to soak in the evening together.
As more guests arrived throughout the night, they were welcomed with a cozy campfire gathering complete with s’mores, drinks, lawn games, and space to relax together. These welcome moments are always some of our favorites because they give guests the chance to mingle ahead of the wedding day and allow couples to really take in the excitement surrounding the weekend.
When the Weather Had Other Plans
After such a beautiful rehearsal day, everyone hoped the weather would hold for the outdoor ceremony. But in a rare October turn for Tomales Bay, the rain began rolling in as vendors arrived on the wedding morning.
The groom’s father was up on the hill building the chuppah, the florist was arranging blooms, and the bride was getting ready in the cozy A-frame suite when it became clear the weather was not letting up. As the rain grew heavier, we made the difficult call to move to Plan B and bring the ceremony indoors.
Out came the rainbow umbrellas, the chuppah was carefully relocated, and the after-party space was transformed into an intimate ceremony setting.
The Magic Behind the Scenes
One of the things couples often do not see on their wedding day is how everyone comes together when unexpected changes happen. Not just the vendors, but the guests too. The kindness, flexibility, and love surrounding J + Q throughout the weekend left a lasting impression on our team.
While the groom spent the morning getting ready with friends, the bride was surrounded by family and loved ones as everyone prepared for the celebration ahead. Behind the scenes, vendors worked together seamlessly to redesign the flow of the day and create an indoor ceremony that still felt deeply personal and beautiful.
An Intimate Ceremony Filled with Emotion
The indoor ceremony became one of the most heartfelt moments of the weekend. The cozy setting created an intimate atmosphere where guests stayed warm and dry, though there was hardly a dry eye in the room. J + Q exchanged vows while friends shared commitments and reflections alongside them, creating a ceremony that felt incredibly grounded in love and community.
The couple’s shared love of books and literature was woven throughout the design details, from vintage books styled on the tables to place cards inspired by classic library catalogs. Every touch felt personal and intentional.
Dinner, Dancing, and Karaoke
Following the ceremony, guests transitioned into the outdoor dining space for a family-style dinner catered by Austin Perkins Catering. Between heartfelt toasts, incredible food, and dancing under the evening sky, the celebration continued late into the night.
Later, the ceremony space was transformed once again, this time back into a lounge-style after-party complete with karaoke, cocktails, and late-night snacks. Guests gathered around the campfire, laughing, singing, and soaking in every final moment together.
Thoughtful Details That Last Beyond the Wedding Day
As many guests shared throughout the weekend, J + Q are truly some of the sweetest and most thoughtful people. Reflecting that generosity, the couple chose to redistribute their wedding flowers to a local senior center after the event so others could continue enjoying them in the days that followed.
Takeaways for Future Couples
One of the best parts of a wedding weekend is the extra time it creates for connection. When guests are traveling, extending the celebration beyond one day gives everyone more opportunities to relax, spend time together, and form meaningful memories.
For couples planning outdoor weddings, having a thoughtful backup plan is essential. Umbrellas, pashminas, tents, and contingency layouts can make all the difference and allow you to enjoy the day no matter what the weather brings. And if you are planning an after-party, do not skip the late-night snacks. Trust us, your guests will thank you.
Most importantly, just because your wedding does not unfold exactly the way you envisioned does not mean it will not turn out even better than you imagined. Cheers to J + Q! May your love continue to be as endless as your generosity, joy, and care for those around you.
