Wine on the Westside at Park Chalet

The Richmond Neighborhood Center’s 2024 Wine on the Westside

Wine on the Westside is a true reflection of the power community centers have to uplift neighborhoods and the people who call them home. This year’s event celebrated the incredible work of the Richmond Neighborhood Center and took place at the iconic Park Chalet in San Francisco.

Now in its tenth year, Wine on the Westside began as a grassroots fundraiser to support one of the Neighborhood Center’s most impactful initiatives: its food programs, which continue to provide hundreds of neighbors with access to nutritious meals each week. Over the past decade, the event has grown into a beloved annual gathering that brings together residents, supporters, and staff to celebrate the vibrant spirit of the Richmond District.

An Evening Rooted in Community

Guests enjoyed a a casual cocktail reception, an elaborate wine and spirits auction, and a curated selection of auction items generously donated by local artists and businesses from the surrounding neighborhood. With nearly 100 local donors represented, the auction showcased just how deeply this community supports its own.

The evening felt less like a traditional fundraiser and more like a joyful neighborhood reunion. Guests mingled freely, connected with Richmond Neighborhood Center staff, and spent time catching up with friends, many of whom have been attending this event year after year since its very beginning.

Local Flavor and Creative Touches

True to the spirit of the Westside, the night included thoughtful and playful elements that kept the energy high. A wine painter welcomed guests by creating portraits using Cabernet, setting a creative and lighthearted tone. Simple décor highlighted the bold, beautiful branding created by local artist Hollis Kellis, grounding the event in local talent.

For the third consecutive year, the Evie Layden Band filled the space with bluegrass-inspired sounds, bringing a familiar rhythm and warmth that perfectly matched the neighborhood vibe.

Celebrating Impact and Opportunity

The evening was made even more special by a visit from Mayor London Reed, who stopped by to congratulate the organization and highlight the Neighborhood Center’s extraordinary impact. From employing local youth and providing jobs for hundreds of community members to creating meaningful opportunities for students, the Center’s work continues to change lives across the Richmond.

Student photographers from a local high school captured the night, gaining hands-on experience while building job-ready skills. Each student was recognized with a certificate honoring their initiative in forming a photography club that reflects their interests and professional goals. The event also spotlighted a local real estate company that has launched a student employment program, offering young people valuable work experience as they prepare for college and beyond.

A Night That Keeps Growing

Wine on the Westside continues to evolve each year to better serve both the neighborhood and the guests who support it. Walking into the room, you immediately feel the love, respect, and shared commitment that defines this community. The energy stays high all night long.

With volunteers and attendees returning year after year, some for all ten years, Wine on the Westside remains a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together. It’s a truly incredible night for an equally incredible organization.
