Best Buddies Friendship Walk 2025: A Festival of Inclusion

We have the joy of working on many events throughout the year, but the Best Buddies Friendship Walk holds a special place in our hearts. It’s an event we look forward to annually, and helping bring it to life alongside the dedicated staff, volunteers, and committee always reminds us why we love what we do.

A Community Effort from Start to Finish

From the very beginning, the Friendship Walk Committee—made up of board members, participants, and volunteers—was instrumental in shaping the event. Every planning meeting began with a mission moment, grounding us all in the heart of Best Buddies’ work: building opportunities for one-to-one friendship, integrated employment, and leadership development for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). That focus carried through every detail, reminding us of the bigger purpose behind the celebration.

A Beautiful Day in Golden Gate Park

This year’s walk was held on a picture-perfect sunny day in Golden Gate Park. JFK Drive served as the route, complete with cheer zones where volunteers encouraged walkers every step of the way. The energy was infectious—smiles, laughter, and a true sense of togetherness filled the park from start to finish.

Emcees Who Inspire

We were thrilled to welcome two incredible emcees this year: Athena Crosby, Miss World America, and Kyle Lowe, a race car driver, advocate, and founder of Dreamzilla. Kyle, who has autism, brought a powerful perspective to the stage as he encouraged everyone to chase their dreams, no matter the obstacles. Together, they set the tone for an uplifting and empowering day.

A Festival of Friendship

The walk was just the beginning. Afterward, the Festival of Friendship came alive, buzzing with activity and joy. The mission tent offered friendship bracelet making, clay crafts designed with accessibility in mind, and family-friendly fun for all ages. A bubble maker, face painter, bounce house, cotton candy, and popcorn brought smiles to both kids and adults alike.

Stories That Bring the Mission to Life

Perhaps the most moving moments of the day were hearing directly from participants about their lived experiences. Speakers shared how Best Buddies has impacted their lives—whether through jobs, leadership opportunities, friendships, or support for families navigating disability. Their stories reminded us all why this event matters so deeply.

Food, Fun, and Performances

An incredible volunteer provided delicious bagels for walkers, breakfast sandwiches for VIPs, and special treats for volunteers—a true labor of love. Performances by Cheer SF and the USF Spirit Squad kept spirits high, and of course, the day ended with a crowd-favorite dance party led by DJ Abe.

Powered by Volunteers

The Friendship Walk wouldn’t be possible without its volunteers, who poured their energy and enthusiasm into every aspect of the day. From the USF Women’s Basketball Team to local Cub Scouts and countless others across the Bay Area, their support made the event feel welcoming and seamless for all.

Behind the Scenes: Seamless Execution

Our team supported the event from start to finish—managing committee collaboration, logistics, outreach, and recruitment—so that every detail was covered. By keeping the mission front and center, we ensured that participants could simply enjoy the day, connect with one another, and celebrate inclusion.

Looking Ahead with Gratitude

Every year, the Friendship Walk teaches us something new and leaves us feeling inspired. The 2025 event was no exception—a vibrant, heartfelt reminder of the power of community, inclusion, and joy. We are grateful to be part of this tradition and can’t wait to see what next year brings.
