S+K’s Dream Wedding at Foreign Cinema
After years of imagining what their wedding day might look like, S + K created a celebration that felt thoughtful, personal, and entirely their own. What began as conversations about a simple city hall ceremony or a park wedding evolved into a joyful San Francisco wedding filled with family, friendship, and meaningful details.
A Weekend Full of Celebration
The wedding weekend began with a casual gathering at a local brewery, where friends came together over tacos, drinks, and plenty of time to catch up. It was the perfect way to kick off the celebration and bring everyone together before the wedding day. On the morning of the wedding, S + K got ready at a family home belonging to one of S’s great aunts. The home felt like a true San Francisco time capsule, filled with vintage furniture, family photographs, and years of history. Having S + K surrounded by their mothers and friends in this special family home created an incredibly personal start to the day.
Getting Ready and Exploring San Francisco
The brides got ready together, surrounded by their closest friends and family. They wore beautiful white gowns topped with matching crowns, creating a look that felt elegant while still completely their own. After hair and makeup, S + K headed out to explore some of their favorite San Francisco spots. As longtime Castro residents, the city is an important part of their story, so incorporating places that were meaningful to them made the day feel even more personal. They took photos throughout the city before meeting up with family and making their way to Foreign Cinema for the ceremony.
A Ceremony in the Courtyard
Foreign Cinema was the perfect setting for the celebration. Its iconic courtyard provided a beautiful backdrop for an intimate ceremony, with simple and elegant floral installations by Amanda Davidmar Design framing the space. The ceremony was officiated by Katie’s brother, making the moment even more meaningful. S + K exchanged vows surrounded by family and friends who had watched their relationship grow over the years.
Thoughtful Traditions and Personal Details
Following the ceremony, guests moved into cocktail hour to mingle and enjoy the celebration. They also participated in the signing of a certificate, a Quaker tradition that was especially meaningful to S. Throughout the wedding, there were small details that gave guests a glimpse into who S + K are and the life they have built together. After ten years of a relationship, bringing together all the people who have been part of that journey was incredibly special to witness. S + K also leaned into their vendors, trusting each person to bring their expertise and creativity to the celebration. From the florals to the music to the photography, each element worked together to create a cohesive and thoughtful experience.
Dinner at Foreign Cinema
After cocktail hour and additional photos, guests gathered for dinner at Foreign Cinema. The restaurant’s team brought their signature hospitality and beautiful food to the celebration, while florals from Laurie Burns Design and candlelight created a warm and romantic atmosphere throughout the tables. Many of the design elements came directly from S, who had a clear vision for how the evening should feel. She knew what she loved, knew what she didn’t, and trusted the talented vendors around her to help bring those ideas together.
Dancing the Night Away
After dinner, guests gathered for cake cutting and then hit the dance floor. Heart of Gold DJs kept the celebration going, creating the perfect soundtrack for a night filled with dancing, laughter, and plenty of joy. From the beginning of the weekend to the final dance, the celebration felt relaxed, personal, and completely theirs.
The Power of Trusting Your Vendors
One of our favorite parts of working with S + K was watching how intentionally they approached the planning process. Planning events was not new to them, but planning a wedding was a different experience. They had plenty of ideas and a strong sense of what they liked, but they also knew when to lean on their vendors. What stood out most was not a particular color palette, menu item, or design detail. It was the way S + K communicated with each other throughout the process. They listened, shared ideas, made decisions together, and consistently came back to what mattered most: creating a meaningful experience with the people they love. That clarity carried through every part of the day.
A Celebration That Felt Like Them
There were plenty of happy tears throughout the day, as there always are, but there was also so much laughter and joy. The result was a wedding that felt romantic without being overly formal, thoughtful without feeling overly planned, and unmistakably San Francisco. We are so grateful that we got to be part of S + K’s celebration and help bring their dream wedding to life. It was a beautiful reminder that when couples trust their vendors and stay focused on what matters most, the result can be something truly special. If you are planning your own wedding and want a planning partner to help bring your vision together, we would love to work with you!
